Theresa (Bonnar) Jardine

It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Theresa (Bonnar) Jardine, announce her peaceful passing after a brief illness at Northside General Hospital on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Born August 12, 1927, in Sydney Mines to William and Sarah Bonnar, Mom was the youngest of 18 children and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mom attended New Waterford Nursing School, where she received her CNA. She did not use her nursing certificate right away, as she soon met the love of her life, Milton Jardine. They married in 1948 and went on to raise ten children. Mom began working after the birth of her seventh child and was employed at Harbourview Hospital for 30 years before retiring. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Foot Clinics and later at HeartBeats, where she continued to share her nursing knowledge and caring nature.

Mom and Dad spent much of their time at the family cabin, where some of our most cherished memories were made. Mom taught us all how to swim and later passed that same skill on to her grandchildren. She was a kind, humorous, witty, and loving lady who loved being at the center of family gatherings, especially at the cabin.

Mom is survived by her sons, Greg, Adrian (Diane), Terry (Judy), and Reg (Denise); and her daughters, Sheila Roland, Geraldine Kempt, Angela Jardine, and Michelle (Brian) White, with whom she resided. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, sons-in-law Gerard Oakes and Don Carlson, and sister-in-law Leona Jardine.

She was predeceased by her husband, Milton Jardine; all 17 of her siblings; her daughters, Susan Oakes and Brenda Carlson; and her grandchildren, Jillian Brown, Tommy Oakes, Benjamin Brooks, and Katherine Brooks.

A wake will take place at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home on Friday, February 13, 2026, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish.
