Linda Smith Obituary

LINDA DIANE SMITH, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and Nana—a woman of many titles—passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Neil’s Harbour, NS.

Linda was born on May 13, 1967, in Neil’s Harbour. Her loving and giving personality left an undeniable mark on all who knew her. She dedicated her life to her children, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She spent most of her life caring for many children, loving each in their own special way. She touched too many lives to name—they know who they are. Linda made sure no one went without. She would literally give the shirt off her back if she thought you wanted or needed it.

Linda is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Dale Smith, the love of her life and her rock in every storm. She also leaves behind her son, Johnathan Smith; her daughters, Margaret Smith-Grace (Greg) and Ashley Smith (Chris), all of New Haven; and her cherished grandchildren, Karalee Lillington, Ty Smith, and Nicholas Grace, who treasured every moment spent with their Nana. She is also survived by her mother, Phyllis Symes of North Sydney, as well as many siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her firstborn and beloved son, Nicholas Smith, who was the light of their lives during his six years with them. She was also predeceased by her parents, Betty and Nicholas Symes. Linda often spoke of being reunited with her beloved son and parents.

Linda’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her love and generous spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her love was the greatest gift she gave to all who knew her. She loved fiercely, fought harder, and always told you how it was—whether you liked it or not.

As we say goodbye to Linda, we celebrate the life of a woman who was a beacon of kindness and love. Her legacy is one of unwavering devotion to her family—a testament to the beautiful life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Linda’s memory will be treasured forever as we hold her close in our hearts and remember the light she brought into this world.

We would like to thank everyone who has been with Linda from the beginning. We are especially grateful to the staff at Buchanan Memorial Hospital for treating us like family and providing such amazing care during Mom’s time in the hospital. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Palliative Care team, Dr. Ritter, and Wanda for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Neil’s Harbour, NS. A luncheon will follow the service.
