During her incredible 97 years, Stella was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Stella will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, humor, and unwavering love. She loved camping with her husband Albert and traveling to Newfoundland, where they would visit their large extended family and friends. Mom lived a long and full life, born Stella Maude Collins on November 12, 1926, in Newfoundland to the late Arthur and Esther Jane Collins. She was the sister of William, Bramwell, Robert, Alexander, Elizabeth, Blanche, Rose, and Evelyn.
At a young age, Mom worked at Corner Brook General Hospital in Newfoundland. Shortly after, she came to Cape Breton, where she met her beloved husband, Albert. They settled in Alder Point and raised their family together.
Stella is survived by her children, Ernie (Leisa), Sherman, Melvin (Darlene), Walter (Andrea), Clayton (Sherri), Paulette (Brian), Donnie (Nancy), and Cathy (David). She is also survived by grandchildren James Albert, Ethen, Bradley, Clayton, Ernie, Angel, Christine, Patricia, Danny, John C, Natalie, Brian, Raylene, Auley, Barbarann, Stella, Carla, Angela, David, Joey, Mathew, Chasity, Charity, Jason, Vanessa, Dawayne, and Donald. Special Friends Teresa and Murial Young, (Massachusetts), along with Trix and Jim MacDonald, who held a special place in Mom’s heart, they were always making her laugh.
Stella was predeceased by her husband, Albert Fredrick Devoe, daughters Dorothy Forrest and Jeannie Arsenault, son Elmer (Mary), and three children in infancy: Mary Catherine, Ernest, and Geraldine. Her sons-in-law, Auley MacAuley, Donnie Arsenault, and Joesph Forrest, and her Daughter-in-Law Edna Devoe.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
If Roses grow in Heaven
Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her that I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for a while.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there’s an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
